Adios Kibbles!
We watched a great program "Truth about Pet Cancer" last week. I've learned a lot especially, how kibbles are bad for both dogs and cats. According to the program, 1 in every 50 dogs had cancer 50 years ago and now 1 in every 1.65 dogs will have cancer!!! No wonder that so many dogs and cats around me had or have cancers. So heart breaking...😢 I knew that some ingredients for dog (cat) food are terrible. For example, some meats are not for human consumption...such as carcass which was not killed for food (already dead), diseased or sick animals, rotten meats etc. Many dogs and cats got sick or died because of those foods. It's super important to read the ingredients on the bag but it's also super hard to understand them.
We pick the best kibble we could find for Bambi (chihuahua); human grade, organic gluten free etc. We learned that even if kibble is made with good ingredients, they still cause cancer and other sickness. So we decided to remove kibble from her food. The reason behind it is that it's too processed. To make kibble like kibble shapes, meats (ingredients) are processed with high temperatures until becoming clay-like textures. Then, again, they are processed with high temperatures to make them like sand-like textures. Those processes are carcinogenic. Then, to make kibble shapes from sand, they use some kind of starch (40%) which is very high carb= high sugar. Too much sugars results in greater risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. No matter how high grade ingredients were used, as long as the same process is used, any kibbles are bad for her health.
Bambi turned 12 this year. We regret that we didn't quit kibbles sooner but Bambi will be on a more ketogenic diet like her mama from now on. At this point, her two main foods are organix (kibble) and primal (raw food). We give her half and half twice a day. She eats when she is hungry (like a cat) so she sometimes eats once a day. From now on, we will gradually change to new two main foods; primals (raw food) and ziwi (raw food) plus some fresh vegetables and fruits everyday. We love you, Bambi so so much. Please live long and healthy life with us 💘💘💘

Hike with Bambi
Bambi (chihuahua) and I went to hike last week again. We went to a small mountain trail the week before last. (←here is the link ). Normally, many people go on vacations in summer, so I get pretty busy this time of the year. (My job is a petsitter.) Because of COVID-19, no one goes on vacation. That means I don't have many jobs and I have lots of free time this summer. Unexpectedly, I got summer off like others but I can't go on a trip or anything... Still I want to enjoy summer, so I decided to go to trails nearby every week.
We went to Devil's Slides Trail last weekend. We passed by this trail many times by car but this was the first time hiking here. (Since the tunnel was built, no longer available to go through by car now). It is not a difficult hike (level ai EASY) but if you are scared of heights ... this place can be very hard. Beautiful views though! It is scary for anyone if it's foggy or night time for sure. Bambi walked happy except for the uphill part 😁
These are pictures from the trail ↑. Bambi's face!!! By searching online, there are many nearby trails where we have never been. The information is included where and whether dog friendly or not... so it's very helpful. We will only go to "dog friendly" trails so it will be less trails we can try but it's fun to check new places out. Everything is so much better with Bambi! So we won't go anywhere without her 💓 I know everyone has to stay nearby this summer ... let's enjoy local summer~♪

Street Smart
Bambi (chihuahua) has playdate with Ellie (silkey terrer) everyweek. Ellie was rescued in Mexico and adopted by an amazing mom (my friend) in San Francisco. She was 4 years old (estimate) but she was a young mom herself when she was rescued. She was really spoiled by her mom and auntie and now she became a big princess 💘💘💘
Ellie loves all the attention...whenever I call "Bambi!" Bambi runs to me but Ellie's always the first in line 🤣🤣🤣 Whenever I pet Bambi, she comes in between Bambi and my hand and push her head to get pet herself. She loves shade and always looks for shade and stays there. She even goes into my shade and sits or lays there. Funny girl!!! She probably learned from her street life in very hot Mexico. On the other hand, Bambi the chihuahua (mexican doggie) is clueless. She's always panting in the hot sun and stays helpless.
Ellie is a total princess now but .... still she is street smart for life. Ellie is so amazing and I love her so much 💘💘💘
Ellie, thank you for being a good friend to Bambi. Please teach her "street smarts" sometime!

10 weeks of Keto life
It's been 10 weeks since I started Ketogenic lifestyle. Here is the link → for my 1st week, my 2nd week, my 3rd week, my 4th week., my 5th week, my 6th week, my 7th week , my 8th week and my 9th week. I updated my progress (weight loss) everyweek but I haven't made much progress and ...it hasn't changed last week either. My weight did fluctuated a bit through out the week but it settled about the same. It's been 2 and half months in ... It's a little odd not losing any weight with this lifestyle...😅😅😅
Ketogenic Life Style is so popular nowadays. So I am starting to find some keto friendly foods at regular grocery stores more and more. One of my hobbies is going on "keto friendly food hunts" at grocery stores 😆😆😆 In California, we are still having serious COVID-19 problems, so it's once a week shopping or twice at most.
Those are my findings last week ↑. They are mostly sweets 😊 Keto cups were from Costco and it was "costco size" including 20 peanut butter cups and 10 brownie cups. I hesitated to buy at first since I wasn't sure if it was good... but would never have known if I didn't! ... and it was pretty good! I shared them with my keto friend. My favorite was the crispbread from Trader Joe's! If I don't eat too much (and I don't need to because it is pretty filling), it's pretty keto friendly (3g net carb and 1g (or less) sugar). It is very good with cheese, tuna...and more! I will buy them again for sure! Keto Fudge Bites from Trader Joe's are no go for me. I am sure someone likes them but I realized that I don't even like reguar fudge 😜 Enlightened Ice cream was from whole foods. They are recommended by Dr. Berg and I was so excited to find them. There are several flavors, too. I got Butter Pecan this time and I want to try them all. It was delicious!
I tried blueberry scones, a new recipe last week ↑. I used to get some scones from my favorite bakery often. I was really surprised how easy to make scones are from scratch! Although it was not as good as my favorite bakery's scones, I was exciting that I can still eat scones on keto diet.
These are some of my foods from last week ↑. The interval meal plans (3meals, 2meals and 1.5 meals every 3 days) were not very successful so I am going to try "egg day" for 3 days. I will still be on keto and it will be a lack of vitamins and minerals. So I will have boiled eggs with green juice (smoothies), greens for 3 days... no sweets or other proteins for these days. I'll see how it goes. Everybody is different so I need to test myself to see if it works for me. Let's have a fun Keto life ♪

Bambi (chihuahua) is a 3.9lb tiny girl. Her teeth are about size of tiny rice. Hard material dog toys are no good for her teeth. We bought many many dog toys for her of many different size and materials during all these years. She is always scared of hard material toys. She run away from it (and hide behind me) or trembles. So most of her millions of toys are very soft or fluffy materials.
But!!! She LOVES rocks at the beach. The bigger the better. The opposite of her dog toy preference. She is (again) scared of big toys and she prefers smaller ones. How funny! She barely plays with her millions of toys at home...but she goes nuts with plain rocks on the beach. What a waste of money for all these toys 😒😒😒
She chews those rocks! ↓ She makes us worry that her teeth might chip or break! She even does fetch with that (at least she tries to carry a heavy rock and bring it to us). She is so silly and hilarious!
I don't think she will play with rocks at home (if I give her rocks). Bambi loves the beach and the combination of beach and rocks make her really playful and happy. She LOVES the beach but she doesn't like (she is scared of) water. She really is NOT a "typical" dog...silly silly pup! 🤣🤣🤣

Hiking with Bambi
We had a fun hike with Bambi (chihuahua) on Monday. It's a small mountain trail but it is paved so it's more like a hike with hills. Bambi likes this trail very much. It was a perfect day since it was foggy and cool...and not too many people or other pups on the trail. She is very light so small hill doesn't bother her too much. Besides, when she gets tired or scared for some reason, she always asks me to carry her. Whenever she asks me, I do carry her for sure. 1→2 (↓)
Bambi papa tells me that I am too protective of her but I wouldn't do it any other way for my little fragile girl. Besides, she is getting old and has her physical challenges on her legs and back...pushing her is not a good idea. I just want her to enjoy within her limit. It got pretty foggy and windy....and she was shaking on my arm...so she moved from my arm to inside of my backpack. 2→3 (↓)
When we arrived at the top, Bambi moved from my backpack to inside of my jacket. 3→4 (↑) We had some snacks and hot coffee and were ready to go back! This is Bambi's "princess" style hiking ☻☻☻ Bambi was as good as new and walked with us again!
...until we saw a coyote. ↓ A coyote was roaming on the trail. We saw rabbits here before so I guess he was coming to hunt them 😢😢😢 Oh no bunnies! Be careful!!! Bambi didn't even notice him because she was back in my arm safely.
We got huge muscle cramps next day. Bambi staggered a lot.... We are both out of shape because of staying home all the time! Let's go to hike again, Bambi 💘💘💘

Lil Back Bracer
Bambi (Chihuahua) is 12 years old this year and her back is getting hunched more and more these days. She seems to be having some difficulty and pain at times and her hunchback is contributing to this for sure along with her leg problems and arthritis. She was born with her leg problems and she got her surgery done when she was very young. Her posture from her leg problems made her back very hunched. Bambi papa got her the Lil Back Bracer which is an orthopedic support brace for dogs to prevent further damage. We are hoping she can walk by herself as long as she can.
Bambi hates this back bracer...though. I am sure that it's uncomfortable and made her use muscles that she hasn't been using and stretching. She seems stressed so we are using this for very short times once or twice a week for now. Hopefully, it will help her back and delay her back problems.
Let's try it on ↑ Awww soo cute 💘💘💘 This brace makes her legs very long! If her back is not hunched, she is looking like a model. I so envy her!
Stretch is very important. I, too get stiff shoulder and back all the time if I forget to stretch them. This lil back bracer does support her back completely in a way that a straitjacket does...so we call her brace "Hannibal Lecter" jacket 😅😅😅 Bambi's back won't be straight but hopefully, it'll help improve her quality of life in the future with her Hannibal Lecter jacket!
